Saas-Fee Travel Guide: Skiing, Things To Do, Cafés & Nightlife (2026)

Saas-Fee feels like stepping into a postcard. Surrounded by impressive Swiss Alps, glaciers and traditional wooden chalets, this car-free mountain village is one of the most beautiful places I visited in Switzerland.

I visited Saas-Fee during a trip combining Milan, Lago Maggiore and Switzerland, which made it such a unique experience: one moment enjoying Italian summer vibes, the next surrounded by snow-covered mountains. It was the perfect mix of a city, lake and winter escape.

While Saas-Fee is definitely not the cheapest destination, the scenery, skiing opportunities and unique atmosphere make it a place worth experiencing. In this Saas-Fee travel guide, I share everything you need to know before visiting, including where to stay, how to get there, things to do, restaurants, nightlife and my personal tips.

Practical Info: Saas-Fee

Accommodation in Saas-Fee

Accommodation in Saas-Fee can be quite expensive, especially during ski season. However, there are still some more affordable options if you plan ahead.

Hotel Walliserhof

During my stay, I stayed at Hotel Walliserhof, which was an amazing experience. I was lucky enough to get a good price because my brother works there, as normally this hotel is on the more expensive side.

That being said, the service and experience really show why it has a higher price.

The hotel includes:

  • Pickup from the parking area
  • Transport with your luggage to the hotel
  • Help bringing your bags to your room
  • Breakfast included
  • Afternoon tea/snacks
  • High-quality service throughout your stay

For me, it was definitely worth the experience, especially because everything was organised so smoothly.

Budget accommodation

If you are travelling on a smaller budget, there are more affordable options such as:

  • WellnessHostel4000 – a popular hostel option in Saas-Fee with a younger crowd

You can also look slightly outside Saas-Fee. For example, I stayed in Saas-Almagell with my dad, which was cheaper and still beautiful.

However, keep in mind that Saas-Fee is car-free, meaning you will still need to take a bus to reach the village and ski lifts. Once you add transport costs and extra travel time, the price difference might not always be as big as expected.

There are also some good-value Airbnb options available, but overall accommodation in Saas-Fee is generally more expensive compared to other destinations.

Transportation: How To Get To Saas-Fee

Getting to Saas-Fee is not the easiest compared to other European destinations, but the journey itself is beautiful.

Getting there

I combined my Saas-Fee trip with Milan and Lago Maggiore. This was actually a really fun combination because I got to experience both Italy and Switzerland in one trip.

I travelled:

Milan → Visp → Saas-Fee

  • Train Milan to Visp: around €40
  • Bus Visp to Saas-Fee: around €20

The closest train station is Visp, from where you continue by bus into the mountains.

By car

Driving to Saas-Fee can actually be easier, but remember:

Saas-Fee is completely car-free.

You have to leave your car at the parking area before entering the village. From there, you can take transport into Saas-Fee.

This is something to consider when comparing costs because although driving sounds cheaper, you still have parking costs and need to use transport afterwards.

Getting around Saas-Fee

Inside Saas-Fee:

  • Small electric minibuses drive through the village (because the streets are narrow)
  • These are free
  • Larger buses going towards ski lifts or surrounding villages require tickets

Things To Do In Saas-Fee

Whether you visit in winter or summer, Saas-Fee has plenty to offer.

Skiing

Of course, the main reason many people visit Saas-Fee is skiing.

The ski area is incredible, with:

  • Beautiful mountain views
  • Long ski runs
  • Plenty of lifts
  • A true alpine village atmosphere

It feels like the whole village is built around skiing, making it the perfect destination for winter sports lovers.

Ride the Feeblitz Coaster

The Feeblitz is one of the most fun activities in Saas-Fee.

This alpine coaster takes you through the mountains with amazing views and is fun even if you are not skiing.

Visit Hannig

Take the lift up to Hannig for incredible views over Saas-Fee.

One highlight is the famous swing overlooking the mountains. It is one of those places where you simply stop and appreciate how beautiful Switzerland is.

Meet The Black Nose Sheep

One of the cutest experiences in Saas-Fee is meeting the famous Swiss black nose sheep.

These fluffy sheep are extremely friendly and definitely worth visiting if you get the chance.

Hiking In Saas-Fee

Saas-Fee is not only a winter destination. During summer, the area transforms into a hiking paradise.

Some beautiful hikes include:

Hannig Sun Trail

A relatively easy hike of around 4 km with beautiful mountain views.

Spielboden Murmeli Trail

A fun family-friendly trail where you can spot marmots and even feed them.

Ibex Trail

A longer hike of around 11 km for those wanting more of a challenge.

Unique Experience: Fondue Gondola In The Mountains

For a unique Swiss experience, try the Fondue Gondola in Saas-Fee. Enjoy a traditional cheese fondue, Valais wine, tea, dessert and schnapps while sitting in a cosy gondola surrounded by snowy mountain views.

The experience lasts around 1 hour and costs around CHF 70 for adults. Booking in advance is recommended as it is a popular winter activity.

Food & Drinks In Saas-Fee

Although Saas-Fee is a small village, there are some lovely places to eat and drink.

Brunch & Coffee

The Capra Saas-Fee

For a more luxurious brunch experience, The Capra is one of the best places to go in Saas-Fee. This beautiful boutique hotel combines a cosy alpine atmosphere with high-quality food and mountain views. Their breakfast focuses on fresh, local ingredients and includes options like freshly prepared drinks, pastries and a selection of breakfast dishes.

Even if you are not staying at the hotel, it is a lovely place to visit for a slower morning, especially after a day in the mountains. It is definitely more of a special occasion spot rather than a budget breakfast option.

12-inch Coffee

For a more relaxed coffee stop, head to 12-inch Coffee. This cosy café and vinyl bar in the heart of Saas-Fee is the perfect place for a morning coffee, afternoon break or a quick lunch.

They serve specialty coffee, French breakfast croissants, bagels, cakes and small snacks, all in a very unique atmosphere with music playing from their vinyl collection. It is a great spot to warm up after skiing or simply enjoy a slow morning in the village.

Restaurants

belMont Terrace

For a cosy coffee, lunch, cocktail or afternoon drink with a view, belMont Terrace is a beautiful place to stop in Saas-Fee. Located directly by the ski slopes, this sunny terrace offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains and is the perfect spot to relax after skiing or exploring the village.

The atmosphere is more relaxed than a typical après-ski bar, making it a great choice if you want to sit outside, enjoy the scenery and take your time. They also serve homemade dishes and Swiss-inspired food if you want to stay for lunch or dinner.

Whether you come for a coffee in the afternoon, a drink after skiing or a cosy dinner, belMont is one of those places where you can really enjoy the Swiss mountain atmosphere.

Estubbe

If you want to try traditional Swiss flavours in a cosy alpine atmosphere, Essstube is a great choice. This restaurant combines a warm, rustic feeling with a more refined menu, making it a lovely place for a relaxed dinner after a day in the mountains. You can find classic Swiss-inspired dishes alongside international options.

It is the kind of place where you can enjoy a slow evening, a good glass of wine and a cosy mountain atmosphere.

Restaurant Walliserkanne at Hotel Allalin

For a slightly more special dinner experience, the restaurant at Hotel Allalin is worth checking out. The restaurant has a beautiful traditional alpine interior with old larch wood details and focuses on fresh, seasonal dishes.

It is a great option for a romantic evening or when you want to treat yourself after skiing or hiking.

Pizzeria Boccalino Saas-Fee

Sometimes after a long day outdoors, you just want something simple and comforting. Boccalino is a popular pizzeria in the village, serving Italian classics like pizza and other warm dishes throughout the day.

A good choice if you are looking for a more casual dinner or want a break from traditional Swiss food.

Del Ponte

Del Ponte was honestly my favourite place to eat in Saas-Fee. If you are looking for really tasty Italian food with good value for money compared to many other restaurants in Switzerland, this is the place I would recommend.

They serve Italian classics like fresh pasta, pizza and other Mediterranean dishes, making it the perfect change after a few days of Swiss mountain food. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, and the food was honestly delicious.

After a long day skiing or exploring Saas-Fee, this was the perfect place to enjoy a comforting meal. I would definitely come back here!

Nightlife In Saas-Fee

Saas-Fee is not known as one of the biggest party destinations in the Alps. If you compare it to famous Austrian ski resorts like St Anton, the nightlife is much smaller and more relaxed.

However, that does not mean there is nothing happening. After a day skiing, Saas-Fee has a cosy après-ski scene with a mix of locals, tourists and seasonal workers. The best atmosphere is usually found in the smaller bars where people gather after skiing.

Après Ski & Bars In Saas-Fee

Nesti’s Ski Bar

Nesti’s Ski Bar is one of the classic après-ski spots in Saas-Fee. It is the perfect place to stop after skiing, grab a drink and enjoy the mountain atmosphere before heading back into the village.

Expect a fun après-ski vibe, especially during the busy winter months.

Metro Bar

Metro Bar is a cosy place for an evening drink. It has a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some of the louder après-ski bars and is a nice option if you just want to have a few drinks with friends.

Old Cinema Pub

Old Cinema Bar is one of the places where many seasonal workers spend their evenings. Because of this, it has a more local feeling and is a good spot if you want to meet people who work in Saas-Fee during the winter season.

Pubwise Bar

Pubwise is a relaxed bar option for an easy evening out. It is a good place to start your night with a drink before moving on to other places.

The Larix Bar

The Larix Bar is perfectly located if you finish your ski day and want to continue with après-ski. It is especially popular because you can ski down and stop here at the end of the day.

High Life Après Ski Club

If you are looking for more of a party atmosphere, High Life Après Ski Club is one of the places to check out. Expect louder music, drinks and a more energetic crowd.

Project X

Project X is the nightclub in Saas-Fee and the place to go if you want to continue partying after the bars close.

When I visited, it was extremely busy and definitely had a fun atmosphere. However, compared to famous Austrian ski resorts, it is still a smaller nightlife experience. If you are looking for huge parties, packed clubs and legendary après-ski, Austria probably has more to offer.

Social Life & Meeting People

Saas-Fee has a very friendly atmosphere, but it is not necessarily the easiest place to meet lots of new people.

I met many lovely people, although this was partly because my brother works there as a seasonal worker and already knew many people.

Compared to bigger ski destinations, Saas-Fee is:

  • More authentic
  • More peaceful
  • More local

But:

  • Not the biggest party scene
  • Not the easiest place for solo travellers looking for huge social events

My advice: find out where seasonal workers and locals spend their evenings because that is where you will find the most atmosphere.

Tips & Tricks For Visiting Saas-Fee

Remember it is car-free

This is probably the most important thing to know before visiting.

Plan:

  • Where you park
  • How you get luggage into the village
  • How you reach your accommodation

Book accommodation early

Especially during ski season, prices increase quickly.

Combine Saas-Fee with Italy

I loved combining Saas-Fee with Milan and Lago Maggiore. It gave me the best of both worlds:

Plan your budget

Switzerland is expensive, especially mountain destinations.

To save money:

  • Compare accommodation outside Saas-Fee
  • Cook some meals yourself
  • Book ski passes and activities ahead
  • Avoid unnecessary transport costs

My Reflection: Is Saas-Fee Worth Visiting?

Saas-Fee was one of those places where the scenery genuinely surprised me.

The combination of glaciers, mountains, traditional houses and the peaceful car-free village makes it feel completely different from many other ski destinations.

Would I return? Absolutely.

However, I would choose Saas-Fee depending on what kind of trip you want.

If you are looking for:

  • Beautiful mountains
  • Amazing skiing
  • A cosy Swiss village experience

Then Saas-Fee is perfect.

If you are looking for:

  • Huge nightlife
  • Famous après ski parties
  • Budget travel

Then destinations like Austria might suit you better.

For me, Saas-Fee was the perfect mix of adventure, nature and experiencing the magic of Switzerland.
