Where to Stay in Uluwatu: Best Areas, Hotels & Hostels (2026)

Wondering where to stay in Uluwatu? Honestly, choosing the right area can make quite a big difference to your trip.

Uluwatu isn’t really one compact town. The area is spread across the southern Bukit Peninsula, with places like Bingin, Padang Padang, Pecatu, Ungasan and Balangan all offering a slightly different experience.

If you want my personal recommendation, I’d look at Bingin first.

I stayed in Bingin and absolutely loved it. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants, surf spots and accommodation options around the area, and it has that laid-back Uluwatu feeling I really liked.

But depending on your budget and what kind of trip you’re planning, another part of Uluwatu might suit you better.

Short on Time?

If you don’t want to read through the whole guide, these are a few accommodation options I’d look at depending on your travel style:

  • ⭐ Lautan Biru Bingin – Where I personally stayed and absolutely loved. Great if you want a beautiful stay in the Bingin area.
  • ⭐ Terra Cottages Uluwatu Bali – A beautiful option in Bingin with a pool and beachfront location.
  • ⭐ Bingin Garden Uluwatu – A good option if you’re travelling with friends or a group, with two- and three-bedroom villa options available.
  • ⭐ Home-Bience Hostel – A great option if you’re travelling solo or want a more social and budget-friendly stay, with a pool and shared spaces.

For me, Bingin would be my first choice. I loved the area and found it a really nice base for exploring the rest of Uluwatu.

1. Staying in Bingin

Best area to stay in Uluwatu for first-time visitors

If you’re wondering where to stay in Uluwatu for the first time, I’d personally choose Bingin.

This was the area I stayed in, and I honestly loved it.

Bingin has a really nice mix of surf, cafés, restaurants, accommodation and beach life. You can spend your morning getting breakfast, head down to the beach, come back for lunch and then find somewhere nearby for sunset.

It’s also a great area if you’re travelling solo because there are plenty of hostels, surf houses and places where it’s easy to meet other travellers.

One thing to keep in mind is that Uluwatu isn’t particularly walkable as a whole. You can walk around your immediate area, but you’ll generally want a scooter or taxi to explore the different beaches and neighbourhoods.

What I like about staying in Bingin

  • Great restaurants and cafés
  • Good surf atmosphere
  • Close to Bingin Beach
  • Social without feeling like a huge party destination
  • Lots of accommodation options
  • Good choice for solo travellers
  • Beautiful sunsets
  • Easy base for exploring other parts of Uluwatu

I also share more of my favourite beaches, restaurants and things to do in my Uluwatu travel guide.

Downsides

  • The area can be busy
  • Some accommodation involves lots of stairs
  • Bingin Beach itself requires walking down steep steps
  • You’ll still need transport to explore the rest of Uluwatu
  • Prices can be higher than in some inland areas

Where I Stayed: Lautan Biru Bingin

I stayed at Lautan Biru Bingin, and I honestly loved it.

It was one of the most beautiful places I stayed during my time in Indonesia, and I would 100% recommend it.

Check Lautan Biru Bingin

But honestly, even if you don’t stay at Lautan Biru, I’d still recommend looking for accommodation around Bingin.

There are loads of different options, from simple surf accommodation to beautiful villas and boutique hotels.

Terra Cottages Uluwatu Bali

If you’re looking for something a little more special, Terra Cottages Uluwatu Bali is worth checking out.

It’s in the Bingin area and has a swimming pool, garden, restaurant and beachfront location. It also has a very high guest rating on Booking.com, with the location being particularly well rated.

I’d choose Terra Cottages if: you want a beautiful boutique-style stay close to Bingin Beach.

Bingin Garden Uluwatu

If you’re travelling with friends, Bingin Garden Uluwatu is another interesting option.

They have different room types as well as two- and three-bedroom villas, which could make this a good option if you’re travelling as a group and want to stay together.

There’s also an outdoor swimming pool and free parking.

I’d choose Bingin Garden if: you’re travelling with friends and want more space than a standard hotel room.

2. Staying in Padang Padang

Best area to stay in Uluwatu for beaches and cafés

Padang Padang is another great option if you want to be relatively central while staying close to one of Uluwatu’s most famous beaches.

The area has plenty of accommodation, restaurants and cafés, and it’s a good base if you want to combine beach days with exploring the rest of the Bukit Peninsula.

I’d particularly consider Padang Padang if you don’t want to be as far into Bingin but still want that beachy, social Uluwatu atmosphere.

What I like about Padang Padang

  • Close to Padang Padang Beach
  • Lots of cafés and restaurants
  • Good location for exploring
  • Good mix of budget and higher-end accommodation
  • Surf-friendly

Downsides

  • Can get busy around the beach
  • Not everything is within easy walking distance
  • You’ll still need transport for many Uluwatu attractions

If your main goal is to spend your days moving between different beaches, Padang Padang and Bingin are both really convenient bases.

3. Staying in Pecatu / Uluwatu

Best area to stay in Uluwatu for luxury, sunsets and beach clubs

If you’re looking for something a little more luxurious, I’d look at Pecatu and the Uluwatu clifftop area.

This is where you’ll find more of the beautiful resorts, private villas, ocean views and luxury accommodation.

It’s also convenient if you’re interested in places like Uluwatu Temple, Single Fin and the famous cliffside sunset spots.

The downside is that this area isn’t really the place I’d choose if you want to walk everywhere. You’ll probably be using a scooter or taxi quite regularly.

What I like about Pecatu / Uluwatu

  • Beautiful ocean views
  • Lots of luxury accommodation
  • Great for couples
  • Close to Uluwatu Temple
  • Good sunset spots
  • Great for a relaxing holiday

Downsides

  • Can be expensive
  • Less social than Bingin
  • You’ll probably need transport
  • Larger resorts can feel less local

I’d choose Pecatu if: you want a beautiful hotel or villa and don’t mind using transport to explore.

4. Staying in Balangan

Best area to stay in Uluwatu for a quieter beach stay

If Bingin sounds a little too busy for you, Balangan could be a better choice.

It’s known for its relaxed surf atmosphere and beach, and it generally feels quieter than the more popular Bingin and Padang Padang areas.

I’d choose Balangan if you’re looking for a slower Uluwatu experience rather than wanting to be in the middle of the café and restaurant scene.

What I like about Balangan

  • More relaxed atmosphere
  • Beautiful beach
  • Good surf
  • Less busy
  • Great for a slower trip

Downsides

  • Fewer restaurants and cafés
  • Less social
  • You’ll need transport more often
  • Further from some of Uluwatu’s main attractions

I’d choose Balangan if: you want to wake up close to the beach and don’t mind being a little further from the main Uluwatu scene.

5. Staying in Ungasan

Best area to stay in Uluwatu for villas and groups

If you’re travelling with a group, I’d also have a look at Ungasan.

This area has plenty of larger villas and resorts, so you can sometimes get much more space for your money when you’re splitting the cost between several people.

This can be particularly appealing if you’re travelling with four, six or more people and want your own pool and common space.

What I like about Ungasan

  • Lots of villas
  • Good for groups
  • More space
  • Private pools are common
  • Good for longer stays
  • Close to beaches like Melasti and Green Bowl

Downsides

  • Less walkable
  • More dependent on scooters/taxis
  • Less of the Bingin social atmosphere

I’d choose Ungasan if: you’re travelling with friends and want to rent a beautiful private villa together.

Hostels and Budget Accommodation in Uluwatu

If you’re travelling solo or backpacking around Bali, you definitely don’t need to spend a fortune on accommodation in Uluwatu.

There are plenty of hostels and surf houses where you can stay for less and meet other travellers.

Home-Bience Hostel

Home-Bience Hostel is one option worth looking at if you’re travelling on a budget.

It has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, terrace and shared kitchen, as well as communal areas where you can meet other travellers. Booking.com currently shows a strong overall guest rating and particularly good scores for value for money.

It’s not right in the middle of Bingin, so I’d choose it more for the hostel experience and facilities than for being able to walk everywhere.

I’d choose Home-Bience Hostel if: you’re travelling solo, want a pool and want to meet other backpackers.

Book Home-Bience Hostel

There are also plenty of other hostels around Uluwatu and Bingin, so if your main priority is price, I’d compare a few options before booking.

Travelling to Uluwatu With Friends?

If you’re travelling with a group, I’d seriously consider renting a private house or villa instead of booking separate hotel rooms.

There are so many beautiful villas around Uluwatu that splitting the cost between several people can make them surprisingly affordable.

And honestly, having your own pool, kitchen, outdoor space and living room can make a group trip so much more fun.

I’d look around Bingin, Pecatu or Ungasan, depending on whether you care more about location, views or space.

If you’re travelling with six people, for example, I’d much rather split one beautiful villa between everyone than pay for three separate hotel rooms.

Bingin or Padang Padang?

Still not sure where to stay?

I’d make the decision based on what kind of trip you want.

Stay in Bingin if you:

  • Want a social atmosphere
  • Like cafés and restaurants
  • Want to surf
  • Want to be close to Bingin Beach
  • Are travelling solo
  • Want lots of accommodation choices
  • Like the trendy but relaxed Uluwatu vibe

Stay in Padang Padang if you:

  • Want to be close to the beach
  • Want a central location
  • Like cafés and restaurants
  • Want to explore different parts of Uluwatu
  • Prefer a slightly more convenient base

Stay in Pecatu / Uluwatu if you:

  • Want luxury
  • Want an ocean-view villa or resort
  • Care about sunsets
  • Want to be close to Uluwatu Temple
  • Don’t mind using transport

Stay in Balangan if you:

  • Want somewhere quieter
  • Mainly care about the beach
  • Like surfing
  • Don’t mind being further from the main restaurant scene

Stay in Ungasan if you:

  • Are travelling with friends
  • Want a private villa
  • Want a pool
  • Need more space
  • Are staying for longer

My Recommendation: Where Should You Stay in Uluwatu?

Personally, I’d choose Bingin again.

I loved staying there and felt like it had a really nice balance between beautiful beaches, restaurants, cafés, surf and meeting people.

It also felt much more like the Uluwatu experience I was looking for compared with staying in a big resort somewhere further away.

If you’re travelling with a group, though, I’d definitely look at private villas around Bingin or Ungasan.

And if you’re looking for a more luxurious trip, I’d probably choose Pecatu or the Uluwatu clifftops.

So, basically:

Best overall → Bingin

Best for beaches → Bingin or Padang Padang

Best for luxury → Pecatu / Uluwatu

Best for groups → Bingin or Ungasan

Best for a quieter stay → Balangan

Best for backpackers → Bingin + a hostel

Final Thoughts

If you’re asking me where to stay in Uluwatu, my answer is pretty simple: Bingin.

That’s where I stayed, and I loved having so many cafés, restaurants, beaches and things to do nearby.

But Uluwatu has something for pretty much every type of traveller. You can stay in a cheap hostel, a beautiful boutique hotel, a private villa with friends or a huge clifftop resort.

The most important thing is simply to choose the area that matches the kind of trip you want.

And personally, I’d pick Bingin again.
