Bruges is famous for its medieval streets, canals and chocolate, but the city also has some really lovely cafés and brunch spots.
Whether you’re looking for a proper Belgian breakfast, a good coffee, bagels, pancakes or simply somewhere cute to sit for an hour, there are plenty of options around the city.
I’ve put together my favourite coffee and brunch spots in Bruges, from popular places like Benedict Café and That’s Toast to smaller, more local-feeling cafés.
So if you’re wondering where to eat brunch in Bruges, here are the places I’d put on your list.
If you’re planning a full trip to Bruges, check out my Bruges Travel Guide: Best Things to Do, Eat & See for a complete overview of what to do, where to eat and what to see in the city.
1. Benedict Café
Best for: classic brunch
If you only have time for one proper brunch in Bruges, Benedict Café would be high on my list.
It’s a classic brunch spot with all the things you’d expect from a good brunch menu, and honestly, it’s just really good.
It’s a great place to start your day before heading out to explore the historic centre.
My tip: Come hungry. This is definitely more of a proper brunch than a quick coffee stop.
If you’re only spending one day in the city, I’ve also put together a One Day in Bruges: The Perfect One-Day Itinerary with exactly how I’d plan your day.

2. Blackbird
Best for: aesthetic brunch and coffee
Blackbird is one of the more trendy and aesthetic cafés in Bruges.
It’s a nice option if you want somewhere that feels a little more modern rather than traditional Belgian.
The atmosphere makes it particularly nice for a slow breakfast or coffee before spending the day exploring Bruges.
Perfect for: coffee dates, brunch and pretty photos.
3. Sweet L’Œuf
Best for: cozy breakfast
If you’re looking for somewhere cozy and cute, check out Sweet L’Œuf.
The name already gives away what kind of place you’re getting: a relaxed breakfast and brunch spot with a warm atmosphere.
It’s a good option if you want to take your time over breakfast rather than grabbing something quickly.
4. Koffie Kamiel
Best for: relaxed coffee
Sometimes you don’t need a huge brunch.
You just want a really good coffee and somewhere nice to sit.
That’s where Koffie Kamiel comes in. It’s a relaxed coffee spot that’s perfect for a slower morning in Bruges.
I’d particularly choose this one if you’re already planning a big lunch or dinner later in the day.
5. Ontbijt- & Theehuis Passeviet
Best for: a simple local breakfast
For something a little more traditional and low-key, head to Ontbijt- & Theehuis Passeviet.
It’s a lovely option for a simple breakfast or tea without the trendy brunch atmosphere you get at some of the other places on this list.
Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
6. Boho Brunch
Best for: aesthetic brunch
As the name suggests, Boho Brunch is all about that cute, relaxed brunch atmosphere.
If you’re looking for somewhere aesthetic with a menu made for a slow morning, this is definitely one to consider.
It’s also a good choice if you’re looking for Instagram-friendly brunch in Bruges.
7. Kottee Kaffee
Best for: small local café
Kottee Kaffee is a smaller, more local-feeling café that’s worth checking out if you want to get slightly away from the obvious tourist spots.
It’s the kind of place I’d choose when I want a quiet coffee break while exploring Bruges.

8. Sanseveria Bagelsalon
Best for: bagels
If you’re more of a bagel person, don’t miss Sanseveria Bagelsalon.
It’s a relaxed spot where you can grab a bagel and coffee without committing to a huge brunch.
It’s particularly handy for a casual lunch or late breakfast when you’re spending the day walking around the city.
My tip: This is a great alternative if you’re tired of the typical Belgian food and want something lighter.
9. Babette Bruges
Best for: brunch and lunch
Babette Bruges is another great all-rounder for brunch or lunch.
It’s a good option if you’re exploring the city and want somewhere you can sit down for a proper meal rather than just grabbing coffee and a pastry.
10. That’s Toast
Best for: popular brunch
That’s Toast is one of the more popular brunch options in Bruges.
If you love toast-based brunch dishes, this is definitely one to add to your list.
It’s a particularly good choice for a late breakfast or brunch before a full day of sightseeing.
11. Old Chocolate House
Best for: hot chocolate
Okay, this isn’t necessarily where I’d send you for a traditional brunch.
But if you’re in Bruges, you need to have chocolate at some point.
Old Chocolate House is famous for its hot chocolate experience and is a great stop when you want something sweet.
It’s particularly perfect on a cold or rainy day.
My tip: Combine it with a walk around the historic centre and save it as your afternoon treat.

12. Post Bar
Best for: a hidden gem
Post Bar is one of the cutest coffee spots in Bruges.
This cozy little café is filled with postcards, paper goods, coffee, tea and pastries, which gives it a really creative atmosphere.
What makes it especially fun is that you can write a postcard there and have it mailed on a date of your choice.
It’s the kind of place that feels a little different from the standard tourist cafés in the centre.
Perfect for: coffee, pastries, postcards and a quiet break.
13. Troostbaar
Best for: a peaceful coffee and lunch
Troostbaar is much more than just a café.
It’s a warm and peaceful place centred around comfort, connection and slowing down. Inside you’ll find books, candles and meaningful gifts, while there’s also a lovely courtyard garden.
They even have a remembrance ritual involving stones for people you miss.
This place is particularly special to me because I visited it with my family while remembering my grandfather, who was from Bruges.
So while I obviously can’t be completely objective about this one, I think it’s a really beautiful place to include in a Bruges itinerary.

Best brunch: Benedict Café
Best coffee: Koffie Kamiel
Most aesthetic: Blackbird
